Hon. Tolbert G. Nyenswah is the Assistant Minister of Health & Social Welfare as well as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer at the Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. In these capacities he plans and organizes activities related to the prevention and control of diseases of public health concern, including communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as, mental health. He also coordinates responses to health emergencies and facilitates monitoring of activities for control of emergencies and disease outbreaks.
As the Incident Manager for the Liberia Incident Management Response for Ebola he is managing the multinational team responding to the world’s largest unprecedented Ebola Outbreak. Prior to his ministerial appointment, Asst. Minister Tolbert served as the Acting Program Manager at the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare. Before that he was Deputy Program Manager and Senior Malaria Specialist for the National Malaria Control Program. He has held also held several positions with the United Nations, the International Rescue Committee.
He has an extensive background in mobilizing financial and human resources for project implementation and has collaborated with UN agencies, bilateral agencies, NGOs, communities, and government agencies. Asst. Minister Tolbert is also a practicing lawyer and holds a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
