SYED MONJURUL ISLAM, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is a career civil servant. He took over the charge of the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 10 November, 2014. Before joining the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare he served as Secretary in Ministry of Shipping.
He did his B.com (Hons.) in Finance from the University of Dhaka. He also did his MBA from the Institute Business Administration (IBA) of the same University. He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in ‘Development Planning Techniques’ from the institute of Social Studies of Netherlands. Mr. Monjurul Islam has been serving in different Ministries/Divisions and Organizations of the Government of Bangladesh. Mr. Monjurul Islam started his civil service career by joining as Budget officer in the Ministry of Finance in 1984 and then served as Assistant Secretary/Sr. Assistant Secretary of Ministry of Food, Ministry of Commerce, Economic Relations Division. He served as first Secretary(commercial) at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, India from 1997 to 2003.
He also served as the Deputy managing Director (DMD) of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA). As Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary he worked in the Finance Division for about six years. He also served in the ERD, Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral as Additional Secretary.
