Dr. David Nabarro, a public health expert, was appointed on 12 August 2014. As the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Ebola, his role is to provide strategic and policy direction for an enhanced international response, and galvanize essential support for affected communities and countries.
He works closely with Governments in the region, and other partners, in pursuit of these critical objectives.
Dr. David Nabarro has more than 30 years’ experience of public health, nutrition and development work at country, regional and global levels, and has held positions in non-governmental organizations, universities, national Governments and the United Nations system.
He serves as Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Food Security and Nutrition and Coordinator of the SUN Movement. Dr. Nabarro’s other recent positions include Senior Coordinator for Avian and Pandemic Influenza from 2005 to 2014 and coordinator of the United Nations High Level Task Force on Global Food Security from 2009 to 2014. He was appointed as Senior United Nations Coordinator for Ebola.
Dr. David Nabarro (from the United Kingdom) was appointed Senior UN Coordinator on Ebola on 12 August 2014. Subsequently he was appointed Special Envoy on Ebola on 23 September 2014, following the unanimous adoption of General Assembly resolution 69/1on 19 September 2014, and the adoption of Security Council resolution 2177 (2014) on the Ebola outbreak.
He continues to serve as Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Food Security and Nutrition and Coordinator of the Movement for Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN).
