Michiel Kool joined Shell International Exploration and Production in 1984 and has held assignments with Shell companies in Gabon, New Zealand, Oman, the Netherlands, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Singapore. As a petroleum engineer he was involved in the operation of oil fields in Gabon and the interior of Oman and the development of the Maui gas field offshore New Zealand. He also held assignments as Head of Safety in Oman and as Senior Economist responsible for assessing worldwide E&P investment opportunities.
In June 2009 he was appointed as Executive Vice President for the upstream business of Shell in Asia, covering exploration and production and the governance of LNG, GTL and other gas ventures in the region. In January 2012 he was appointed Executive Vice President Safety, Environment and Social Performance for Royal Dutch Shell based in The Hague.
Mr. Kool graduated with a M.Sc. degree in Mining Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1984
