Kitchinme Bawa started his career in development in 2006 at the community level where he worked with community members to facilitate access to WASH facilities in poor rural communities. In 2010 he joined the WaterAid Nigeria country program as the sanitation and hygiene focal point. In this position, he managed the roll out of the sanitation and hygiene program for the country and supported the WaterAid West Africa regional learning center for sanitation, which is hosted in Nigeria. He is a member of the steering committee of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council representing North, Middle and West Africa.
He joined the African Ministers’ Council for Water (AMCOW) in 2013 as the sanitation and hygiene focal point. In this position, his responsibilities include facilitating the development of sanitation and hygiene policies and implementation plans in especially in countries with special needs across the continent and how they can best be operationalized; strengthening the monitoring and evaluation of African sanitation and hygiene goals and managing the AfricaSan processes. Kitchinme Bawa is currently managing the 4th AfricaSan conference which is coming up in Dakar, Senegal end of May 2015.
